Cultural events mark youth festival
STUDENTS OF various faculties and colleges of Banaras Hindu University presented a series of cultural programmes on the inaugural day of the six-day inter-faculty youth festival, Spandan-06, on Wednesday evening.

Attired in traditional dresses of various States, the students took out a march past from Amphitheater Ground, which culminated at the Sanjay Gandhi Indoor Stadium. Students of the Faculty of Education highlighted the issues of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and women’s education through their performances.
Students of the Faculty of Law staged a court scene.
BHU vice-chancellor Prof Panjab Singh and Padma Vibhushan tabla maestro Pt Kishan Maharaj inaugurated the youth festival. Prof SK Sharma welcomed the guests while dean of Students’ Welfare Prof VK Kumra proposed the vote of thanks.
Around 900 students from 15 faculties and colleges, including Basant Kanya Mahavidyalaya, DAV Degree College, Vasanta College for Women, Arya Mahila Degree College and Mahila Mahavidyalay, are participating in the festival.
Urology conference
THE FOUR-DAY 39th annual conference of the Urological Society of India, titled USICON-06, started at Swatantrata Bhawan, in Banaras Hindu University on Thursday this evening.
More than 1,000 delegates from across the country and abroad are participating in the conference. Around 20 urologists from USA, UK, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Indonesia are also participating in the conference.
