With the situation in Aligarh returning to normal, curfew was further relaxed on Friday in five areas that had last week witnessed communal violence which left three people dead.
Officials said no untoward incidents were reported when curfew was relaxed between nine am and five pm in the Kotwali, Bunna Devi, Gandhi Park, Delhi Gate and Sasni Gate areas.
Friday prayers were offered in mosques amidst tight security, they said.
The officials said an incident of stone pelting was reported on Thursday following an argument between a Hindu and a Muslim at Charkh Walan in Delhi Gate area.
"Harsh statements betwen the two persons on the ownership of a pigeon resulted in rumours of a clash between them," said District Magistrate Anil Sagar.
The rumours led to stone pelting before the situation was controlled by the police, officials said.
Curfew was clamped on May 28 after local BJP leader O P Gupta was shot dead by suspected "hired killers". Two persons died in communal clashes that followed his killing.
