The government has allowed the benefit of its order (passed in 1996) relating to fixing the length of service for promotion. The decision of the government has provided promotion avenues to about 11 teachers from back date.
According to the teachers, they had been opposing the norms fixed by the government order passed in 1986. According to this order, a teacher with Ph D degree could be promoted to senior grade after a period of four years, a teacher with M Tech degree needed six years’ teaching experience and a teacher with B Tech degree would have required eight years of service experience for promotion to senior lecturer grade.
The 1996 order relaxed the service length for promotion to higher scale.
According to this order, a B Tech degree holder required six years and an M Tech degree holder the five years to be promoted. However, in the case of Ph D holders, the maximum length of service of four years remained unchanged.
Besides, it fixed a period of five years for promotion to selection grade as against eight years specified in the 1986 Government Order.
After the implementation of the 1996 government order, at least six lecturers of the HBTI got the benefit of promotion to selection grade and five teachers received benefits of being promoted to senior selection grade.
