Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) secretary K Jothikumaran said Thakur was fine but was admitted to the ICU for observation.

Thakur was hit in the chest during the match against New Zealand, which had a controversial end as the Kiwis emerged winners off a penalty corner the Indians claimed was awarded after the match had ended.

Jothikumaran was hopeful Thakur would be fine before India's next match on Monday against Argentina.

In India's last match against Australia, William Xalco had broken his thumb and was ruled out of the Olympic Games.
