Undoubtedly, one of the biggest moments in the life of a young fashion designer is when he launches his very first store. And it is not very different with Amit Gupta.
The Delhi designer launched his first designer wear studio at Lado Sarai, right next to a posh complex housing a studio of Ritu Kumar. But not one to bask in reflected glory, Gupta prefers to tailor his success in specialised menswear.
“I started work on menswear in late 2003 and it took me this long to come up with a store,” he says. Excited about his first collection which is on display, Gupta says, “This is a pre-fall line almost completely in linen. There are both long shirts as well as short ones to suit the varied preferences of the customers.” The collection also has a detailing specially for men in Delhi.
“I have darted my shirts a little at the back to give them a trimmed look. The fold in the fabric automatically gives a toned silhouette.” The designer, who is also in a tie-up with Banyan Tree resorts in Singapore, now plans to bring out an exclusive line in women’s western wear.
