Notwithstanding their fine display with bat and ball, Delhi were unable to walk away with full points against Gujarat at the Kotla last week. However, Mithun Manhas’s side will need to get over the disappointment of failing to bowl out the opposition on the final day as they take on Saurashtra in an Elite Group A match from today.
While batting has been the team's mainstay this Ranji season, the Delhi bowlers looked venomous at the Kotla under overcast conditions. With Parvinder Awana expected to make a comeback after a minor injury, the pace battery of Pawan Suyal, Pradeep Sangwan and Sumit Narwal looks ready to go for the kill from the onset. Off-spinner Vikas Mishra too would look to share the burden at the Khanderi Cricket Stadium here.
As has been the case for some time, Delhi's reliance on their top and middle order continues and even Virat Kohli's absence, on account of national duty, is not likely to change the norm. Shikhar Dhawan and Yogesh Nagar have proved their abilities time and again, and the Saurashtra bowlers could run into rough weather.
The meteorological department has predicted rain and generally cloudy conditions over the next few days but the hosts will have their eyes firmly set on their opponents rather than the sky. Two draws and a loss to Gujarat means not many are banking on them to win.
Saurashtra have shown sparks of individual brilliance but they have come rather sporadically for the side led by Jaydev Shah.
Ravindra Jadeja has been an asset with both bat and the ball, but he would need to be the other players' support.
