Delimitation: Heated debate witnessed

OMISSION OF Maniram Shyamdeurwa and Ramkola as Assembly segments on one side and continuing with Maharajganj as a reserved Lok Sabha seat on the other, generated heat at the Delimitation Commission’s hearing at DDU Gorakhpur University on Monday. Former Cabinet minister Markandey Chand’s demand to abolish Chillupar constituency in the district was strongly opposed by Samajwadi Party MLC Ganesh Shanker Pandey and Cabinet Minister Harishanker Tiwari. SP MLA from Maniram Kamlesh Paswan said abolition of Maniram and renaming it as Gorakhpur rural Assembly segment was unjust from geographical point of view.

He said the population of the area had been divided into Campierganj, Paniara and Gorakhpur urban localities and the voters would have to cover long distances to castes their votes.

Local MLA RMD Agrawal raised the issue of bogus voting and Dr Mohsin along with BSP MLA GM Singh said that the proposed map of Sahjanwa Assembly segment would increase the problems of the voters.

MP Baleshwar Yadav and former MP Col SP Mani Tripathi expressed anguish over division of the Deoria district into three parliamentary constituencies and said the commission had ignored the district during delimitation. Representative of Union minister Mahavir Prasad, Dr Pradeep Pandey and Congress secretary Akhilesh Pratap Singh complained against attaching Rudrapur and Barhaj Assembly constituencies with Bansgaon Parliamentary constituency. former minister Akhtar Abbasi, Janardhan Ojha, MLA Shivenra Singh and Gyanendra Singh demanded that Maharajganj sadar seat should be freed as it was reserved for Scheduled Castes since 1952.

Siddharth Nagar: Opposition parties will contest the proposed delimitation.

People have demanded a change in the name of the Domariaganj parliamentary constituency. Domariaganj sho-uld be named as Siddharth Nagar.

According to the proposals, Naugarh Assembly constituency will now be named Kapilvastu Assembly constituency. It will be reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates. Naugarh’s northern part has been extended to include Shohratgarh, represented by Minister of State Dinesh Singh. Congress and BJP leaders are in agreement on opposing the delimitation. Itawa is represented by Vidhan Sabha speaker Mata Prasad Pandey and Domariaganj by UP Waqf Development Corporation chairman Kamal Yusuf Malik.
