The counsel for the MLA A Maitri withdrew the application after a division bench of Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma passed stinging remarks against his intention in seeking stay of demolitions.

The Bench, questioning the locus standi of the legislator, felt that there was no public interest involved in the petition and refused to entertain his plea to defer the demolition drive at least till the government implemented the Malhotra Committee report.

Justice Jain while asserting that the local legislator had no locus standi, suggested that the Central Government can move an application before the court if it wanted.
