Assistant municipal commissioner Gopi Krishna Srivastav claimed that the corporation had issued notice to the encroachers to remove their construction and roadside shops but to no avail.

He said around two dozen shops and hoardings along with banners and posters were removed from both sides of the roads as it was creating problem in easy movement of traffic.

Contrary to the claims of Srivastav, the vendors alleged the municipal corporation officials carried out anti-encroachment drive at the same place for the third time in a month and said they had deprived them of their source of earning. They also accused the squad of adopting double standards in carrying out the drive and said influential encroachers had been spared.

Sources said the drive would continue on Thursday and the bulldozers would destroy permanent constructions and porches extending on the roads.

It is to be noted that parking arrangement for the chief minister’s programme has been made on St Andrew’s Degree College premises and the administration is making all possible efforts for peaceful commencement of the programme.
