The barely five-year-old hardly recalls her family, which may have abandoned her, packed in a plastic sack, to die on the Ratu Road on Saturday.

But destiny willed otherwise. Around 7 am Ajay Yadav spotted the bag lying near New Market. "I asked people about the abandoned sack, but nobody seemed to own it. That was when I gave a closer look and as I opened it, I was shocked to find a little girl inside. And she was very much alive," Yadav said.

Yadav took the girl home and gave her milk and bread to eat. "She said her father's name was Tony, who lives in Bombay. But I think she is a resident of Brambay in the Mandar block, as the locals generally pronounce it as Bombay. She told me that she was sleeping, so was unaware how she got there," he said.
