Dhrupad recital enthrals

THE SECOND day of the Bhatkhande Sangeet Sammelan, under the joint auspices of Lucknow Mahotsava Committee and U.P. Tourism, had a varied musical fare including dhrupad and khayal rendition, sitar recital and an Odissi performance. The evening began with the excellent dhrupad rendition by Kamlesh Tiwari of Bhopal. The virtuouso presented ?Too hi Soor too hi chandra?, in raag Bhopali set to Chautaal. He also presented another composition: ?Shankar Sut Ganesh?.

The evening began with the excellent dhrupad rendition by Kamlesh Tiwari of Bhopal. The virtuouso presented ‘Too hi Soor too hi chandra’, in raag Bhopali set to Chautaal. He also presented another composition: ‘Shankar Sut Ganesh’. He was accompanied on pakhavaj by Ravi Shankar Dubey. Sitarist Sunira Kasliwal of Delhi next took the stage. She began her recital with raag Yaman, going on to present a few dadras. Sunira was ably supported on the tabla by Ustaad Ilmaas Hussain.

The third presentation of the evening was the vocal recital of L K Pandit of Delhi. He began with a vilambit composition in raag Bageshwari Bahar, followed by a drut composition in teentaal: ‘Sundar si Kaliyan’. He next presented a bandish in raag Nat Kedar and a tap khayal in raag Bhupali. He also rendered a composition in raag Dhaani. He was accompanied on the tabla by Vinod Lele and by Ustaad Nasir Khan on sarangi.

The evening ended with the Odissi performance of Madhavi Mudgal of Delhi.
