Different types of fish

There are thousands of kinds of fish out there. Not all are ideal for your home aquarium.

There are thousands of species of fishes that live in marine, and freshwater environments all over the world. Most species of fish are cold-blooded animals.

There are three main types of fish; that is why answering the question, what is a fish is so difficult: 1)There are Bony Fishes, 2)Cartilaginous Fishes, and 3)Jawless Fishes.

Bony Fish make up about 95% of all fishes. Their backbones, skulls, ribs, jaws, gills arches, and fin supports are all made from bone. Most of these fish also have a gas filled chamber called a swim bladder which inflates or deflates to control buoyancy.

Cartilaginous Fish include fish like sharks. They have skeletons made of very strong cartilage.

Jawless Fish there are only two types of these left living today: they are the hagfish, and lampreys. The two groups lack jaws and instead have sucking mouth parts
