DIG piqued over no action against mafiosi
NO ACTION against the Mafiosi in the range last year and also in the past three months of the current year has led to spurt in the crime graph in the range, admits DIG Akhilesh Mehrotra.
NO ACTION against the Mafiosi in the range last year and also in the past three months of the current year has led to spurt in the crime graph in the range, admits DIG Akhilesh Mehrotra.

Upset over the prevailing trend and the manner in which officers under him were handling the situation, the DIG has expressed his dissatisfaction before the police chiefs of the four districts under him ie Allahabad, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh and Fatehpur.
What appears to have piqued the DIG more is the fact that no action has been taken against any of the Mafia gangs even though about two dozen such gangs were operating in these four districts.
Instead of taking action against them the cops are being accused of even sheltering some of the most outlawed gangs.
Worse, dons of these gangs were meeting some police officers and going scot-free in a manner as if they had done no wrong.
Another upsetting trend which has come to the understanding of senior police officers is the minimisation of crime. Earlier junior officers were pulled up after being caught in their attempts to minimise crime, now the same was being encouraged by none other than some of the district police chiefs. And as if all this was not enough the cops are busy fudging the records.
Shockingly, such manipulations were being done in heinous criminal acts like murder. For instance, the district recorded 36 murders during the first three months last year while 28 murders were recorded in the first three months this year.
Police sources said these numbers would have gone up to 47 in the first three months last year and 39 in the first three months in this year in case eleven cases of murders each last year and this year were not shown as culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
