"I do not think that such a blatant display of vulgar wealth will help Mayawati in anyway and I feel that in the end it will work against her," Singh told PTI.

The senior Congress leader said he did not believe in the theory that the money for the notes used in the garlands had come through subscriptions from Bahujan Samaj Party workers, who greeted their party president with currency garlands on two occasions, celebrating 25 years of the party.

"Everyone knows that BSP workers are poor and they cannot raise the money needed to make such costly garlands," he said.

Singh alleged that the money has been acquired by corrupt means by leaders and officials in various departments of Uttar Pradesh.
