Police has arrested a dismissed Special Police Officer (SPO) in connection with the recovery of IEDs in high-security MLA hostel area in Jammu city on Friday, taking the number of arrests in the case to seven.
SPO Mehboob Dar, who had escaped during the arrest of Muneer Ahmed Malik, a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant soon after planting nearly ten IEDs, was arrested from a hideout in Bhaderwah belt of Doda district late last night, police said.
He was later shifted to Gandoh police station where he is being quizzed now, they said, adding, three other arrested persons from Doda have been brought to the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) here.
Those who have been shifted to JIC include SPO Mohammad Rafi alias Pinka, Mohammad Ashraf and Nizam-ud-Din alias Nazakat.
While two of them, including main accused-Muneer Ahmed Malik alias Munna and Munib Ahmed were arrested from Jammu and Udhampur districts, three more, including SPO were arrested from Doda, they said, adding, army ex-serviceman Ram Krishen alias RK was also held on Monday.
Two army jawans have also been questioned in the case.
Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Ashok Gupta said "We are investigating the role of some officers of Military Intelligence (MI) in the case as well."
Investigations revealed that SPO Rafi along with dismissed SPO Dar were involved in fabricating Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while Asharaf, a carpenter prepared boxes to conceal the IEDs in it.
Nizam-ud-Din, later arranged a passenger vehicle for carrying explosive laden IED to Jammu.
