AS PART of the pulse polio immunisation programme, District Magistrate of Varanasi Rajeev Agrawal directed the officials concerned to send ‘B’ team of vaccinators to the 62,542 ‘resistance houses’ and hypersensitive areas in Varanasi on Monday and Tuesday for administering polio vaccines to kids between zero to five years of age.

The district magistrate was holding a review meeting on Saturday to get the progress report of the pulse polio immunisation drive which was held on April 9. He strictly advised the officials not to focuss on data only and told them to prepare the lists of kids of hypersensitive and’ resistance houses’ for the purpose of pulse polio vaccination.
He directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure proper functioning of the officials and employees of the health department in the pulse polio immunisation drive. He added that the incharge medical officers of primary and community health centres in rural areas and nodal officers of polio blocks in urban areas would be responsible in case of any laxity in the implementation of pulse polio immunisation drive.
The district magistrate said that the implementation of pulse polio immunisation drive would be assessed as per the directive of the government and immediate action would be taken against those officials who showed reluctance and laxity in the implementation of this drive.
He also directed the Basic Shiksha Adhikari to ensure the formation of ‘Bulawa Team’ in the schools before the pulse polio day to ensure the success of the drive. He questioned the incharge medical officer of Chiraigaon Primary Health Centre Dr RD Singh and also directed him to withhold the salary of the supervisor concerned for laxity in the pulse polio drive.
The district magistrate directed the CMO to hold meetings with the religious leaders of the hyper-sensitive areas and parents of the kids living in the ‘resistance houses’ to ensure cent per cent success of the drive.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting were Chief Development Officer Ram Vilas Mishra, Chief Medical Officer Dr AP Singh, Planning Director Hakim Singh, District Development Officer Rajeev Bankata, Basic Shiksha Adhikari Vinod Rai and District Health Information Officer Dr SC Joshi .
