DISTRICT MAGISTRATE Deepak Kumar, who is also holding additional charge of vice-chairman of the KDA, held his first meeting with the officials on the KDA premises on Tuesday.

AMC inspects KMC accounts section

ADDITIONAL MUNICIPAL commissioner Raghvendra Vikram Singh on Tuesday conducted a surprise inspection of the accounts section of the Kanpur Municipal Corporation.

This followed annoyance expressed by the commissioner over non-payment of salary to the staff of a municipal corporation school in Chunniganj.

The AMC also checked the attendance register and warned employees against any laxity in future.

According to sources, following a dispute over appointment of two teachers, payment of salary to the college staff was delayed. Prima-facie, it was found that due to dilly-dallying by accounts section officials, the salary of the entire staff could not be disbursed for two months. The KMC staff were already not getting salary for the last three months.

Thus, a backlog of five months became too heavy a burden for the employees to bear.

Several of the employees then petitioned divisional commissioner Anita Bhatnagar Jain.

Taking cognizance of the same, the commissioner directed the municipal commissioner to probe why salary for the months of July and September 2005 was not disbursed to the staff of the Chunniganj municipal college. According to sources, the AMC assured release of salary for the month of July on Wednesday.
Sources said the Additional Municipal Commisioner also warned several employees to expedite the functioning of the accounts section or be ready to face the music.
