DMK unit convenor and former Chief Minister R V Janakiraman said in a press release that the administration should also emulate "progressive policies" adopted by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to ameliorate the lot of farmers.

He suggested that schemes like interest free crop loan and jewel loans available under special programmes in Tamil Nadu, be announced in the Puducherry budget.

There should be a separate department for welfare of differently abled persons in Puducherry as in Tamil Nadu. The Puducherry government sponsored Medical College (named after Perunthalaivar Kamarajar) should go on stream in the 2010-11 academic year as planned and the Women and Child Hospital should also start functioning without delay, he said.
