The mob heavily stoned the hospital and damaged nearly a dozen vehicles parked outside. The situation became even more complicated after the police detained a youth trying to lodge an FIR against the doctor.

Till late evening the hospital authorities and SP MLA Haji Mushtaq Solanki were trying to sort out the issue. The condition of patient Rajjab Ali who was down with brain hemorrhage continues to be critical.

Ali was admitted to hospital on March 31, after he fell in his Coolie Bazar house. He was responding well to treatment and his condition was stable. Family members alleged that Dr Kakkar assessed his condition as critical and injected four to five doses almost simultaneously.

As he left, Rajjab Ali went down with unstoppable hiccups and his condition took a turn for worse, said family members. They immediately called the doctor who allegedly didn’t responded to the calls. And when he finally came, he asked them to clear the nursing home bills and referred the patient to SGPGI, Lucknow.

This infuriated the people, who first ransacked the nursing home and then started brickbatting. A car and six mobikes parked outside were also badly damaged in the process.

The CO Swaroop Nagar Subhash Chandra Shakya said further police action would depend on the outcome of negotiations currently going on at the hospital. Meanwhile, Dr Kakkar was not available for comment.
