As per a consent order passed by the Supreme Court on Monday, Prasar Bharti will have to deposit Rs 15 crore with the court registry by February 9. The money will be handed over to Ten Sports, which has agreed to accept the amount as full and final settlement for parting with the live feed (including its own ads). DD cannot use its own ads during the telecast.
While passing the interim order, a bench directed the transfer of the main petition (currently pending before the Bombay HC) to the SC.
In the petition, Ten Sports had challenged the constitutional validity of the government's downlinking guidelines, which made it mandatory for all sports channels and sports-management companies to share live feed free with DD.
The government had waived these guidelines for the Indo-Pak Test series after Ten Sports and DD failed to work out the financial terms for sharing the feed.
