"It was decided that he would rest today. He will be playing tomorrow," Indian cricket team manager Wing Commander M Baladitya, told reporters here on Friday.
However, all other Indian players practiced on Friday including Punjab pacer V R V Singh, who has been specifically asked to be with the team and bowl in the nets, the team manager said.
The team management is still mulling over whether to have a short conditioning camp for the Indian team ahead of the tour of Pakistan which is in the first week of January.
The Indians are scheduled to play three Tests and five one days.
"It may be a 2-3 day camp," the team manager added.
