Many trees and hoardings along the national highway, residential sectors and New Industrial Township in the city gave way due to the storm. Also, the wall of a house in Saroorpur village collapsed, killing one man and injuring several of his family members. The victim was later identified as one Ishtaq.

In Jawahar Colony, four members of a family were injured when the ceiling of their house gave way. They were rushed to BK Hospital. Their condition is said to be stable.

Meanwhile, the storm wreaked havoc on the national highway between Bata Chowk and YMCA crossing, leading to traffic snarls.

“At many places, trees got uprooted and hoardings came crashing down due to the storm. This led to several traffic snarls. But the traffic police responded swiftly, cleared the area and managed the traffic,” Satvir Singh, SHO Traffic said.

Trees and hoardings also fell on many power lines, plunging quite a few residential areas into darkness.
