EC looking into allegations of PM violating poll code

Allegations about violation of model code of conduct by the Prime Minister had been made by the BJP.

The Election Commission on Monday said it was "looking into" the BJP allegations that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had violated the model code by announcing a Rs 602 crore package for poll-bound Assam on Sunday.

"The Commission is looking into the matter", Deputy Election Commissioner R Bhattacharya told reporters when asked if the BJP's complaint had been received by the poll panel.

He said allegations about violation of model code of conduct by the Prime Minister during a public meeting in the state had been made by the BJP.
