The Election Commission will on Thursday announce elections for filling up of 58 Rajya Sabha seats, the Supreme Court was informed on Wednesday.

During hearing of a PIL challenging the Representation of the People (Amendment) Act 2003, which did away with the domicile requirement and secret ballot system for Rajya Sabha polls, Election Commission counsel S Muralidharan told a five-Judge constitution bench the Commission would announce elections to 58 Rajya Sabha seats on Thursday.
The bench headed by Chief Justice YK Sabharwal, said the filling of 58 vacancies in the Upper House shall be subject to the final outcome of the petition challenging the validity of the amendment passed during NDA regime.
