'Elephant Village' to come up near Amber Fort

An 'Elephant Village' would come up near Amber Fort in the pink city, with veterinary doctor services available to look after the problems faced by the animals being used by tourists, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje anounced today.

Inaugurating a resting place for elephants, the Chief Minister assured the mahavats that the state government would extend all facilities to them and their animals.

Foreign tourists visiting Amber Fort mostly ride on elephants, she noted and said it was required to pay attention not only to elephants but also the mahavats.

She also declared the setting up of a welfare fund for elephants and contributed a sum of rupees as the first donor.

Raje directed the Public Health and Engineering Department to ensure regular supply of water for the animals, according to official sources.
