Encephalitis death toll reaches 332 in Gorakhpur

With three more reported deaths in the last 24 hours at the Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College, the cumulative death toll of Encephalitis in Purvhanchal and adjoining regions of Uttar Pradesh has reached 332 this year.

According to additional director health, Gorakhpur Mandal, Diwakar Prasad, the three deaths in the last 24 hours include a child each from Gorakhpur, Kushinagar and Deoria districts.

"Out of 2,246 Encephalitis patients since January this year, 332 have succumbed to the disease," he said.

At present 312 Encephalitis patients are undergoing treatment at BRD Medical College and in the nearby district hospitals.

28 new patients suffering from the disease have been admitted in BRD Medical College in the last 24 hours, the official added.
