Encephalitis kills 7 more in Purvanchal; toll climbs to 148

Seven persons have died due to suspected encephalitis in the Purvanchal region of the state in the last four days, taking this year's toll to 148, health officials said.

Seven persons have died due to suspected encephalitis in the Purvanchal region of the state in the last four days, taking this year's toll to 148, health officials said.

"These deaths occurred during past four days and 47 new patients of suspected encephalitis have been admitted to the hospital during this period," sources in aditional drector (Health)'s office said.

As many as 891 patients of brain fever have been admitted to the BRD Medical College Hospital since January this year.

At present, there are 170 patients undergoing treatment, they said.
