Energy demand goes down in Gujarat

Demand for power during peak hours had come down in Gujarat in December last year compared to the corresponding period of 2007 and 2006.

Demand for power during peak hours had come down in Gujarat in December last year compared to the corresponding period of 2007 and 2006.

In a written reply to a question asked by Congress MLA Arjun Modhvadia, the state energy department said as on December 31, 2006, peak hour demand for electricity was 10,181 MW which went up to 12,177MW by December 2007.

However, by December 31, 2008, the demand instead of rising, has gone down to 9,506MW, he added.

In reply to another question asked by Congress member Rajendrasinh Parmar, the state energy department said that as on December 31, 2007, the state produced 8,420MW power while peak hours demand was 12,177MW.

To meet the demand, the state had bought 924 million units power from private players in 2007.
