Energy management course soon
TO IMPRESS upon the need for better energy handling in view of the shortages being faced in the country and provide an impetus to research in this direction, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) is going to host a short-term course in 'Energy Management' from March 27. The free course is aimed at faculty members, research scholars and MTech students and provide them with an opportunity to crystallise their plans to focus their study on topics related to the field.
TO IMPRESS upon the need for better energy handling in view of the shortages being faced in the country and provide an impetus to research in this direction, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) is going to host a short-term course in 'Energy Management' from March 27.
The free course is aimed at faculty members, research scholars and MTech students and provide them with an opportunity to crystallise their plans to focus their study on topics related to the field. "The short course is being organised in collaboration with the Chandigarh-based National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research and would do its bit in spreading awareness about the need for saving energy," informed Prof Vineeta Agarwal, Head of MNNIT Department of Electrical Engineering who is co-ordinating the course.
"We have decided to fix the number of participants to 50 on a first come first serve basis and have out-station experts to introduce them to the various relevant facets of energy management and conservation," she added.
Prof Agarwal said that March 21 has been fixed as the last date for accepting applications from interested participants for the course.
Among the major topics that will be dealt with during the five-day course include introduction of the energy scenario, energy conservation, non-renewable sources of energy, energy audit, energy efficient technologies and devices. Experts will also take up related case studies to help the participants better understand the issues related to energy management.
Prof Agarwal said that by introducing the participants to broad-based topics related to energy conservation, the experts will try to motivate the faculty members as well as the PhD and MTech students participating in the course to take up topics of these areas for research in the coming months and years.
Hopefully, the participants will return to their institutions and look for opportunities of beginning studies on related topics and even set up labs specifically dealing with the burning issues of energy management, Prof Agarwal said.
