AN ENGINEERING student was forcibly taken away by three other engineering students who took him to the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) and kept him in confinement, police said.

The victim was allegedly tortured and kept in the room for almost 24 hours until he managed to escape and narrated his tale of woes before the police officials.

According to Habibganj SHO Anand Diwan, the complainant, Aniket Pandey, 21, a student of Shree Institute of Technology, was allegedly taken away from the Ten Number Stop by the three accused including Ashish, Pranav and Sandeep, all students of MANIT.

The brother of one of the accused also studies in the Shree Institute of Technology and he had suspected that his missing laptop was with the victim. On Tuesday night Aniket was called by the accused at Ten Number Stop from where they took him along on a motorcycle to MANIT where they kept him in a room.

Aniket was allegedly thrashed with belts and kept in confinement for nearly 24 hrs. Police said that the youth had been tortured though the injuries are not serious.

He was kept in confinement for the entire night and the next day until he managed to escape. On getting free he approached the police and got a complaint registered against the accused under the sections 294, 323, 342, 506 of the IPC for criminal intimidation, wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing hurt et al.

Though police accept that the youth was forcibly taken away and confined, the case of abduction was not registered. The complainant belongs to Katni. He lives near the 12 number stop here. Police say that no one has been arrested as yet but sources said that two of the accused were rounded up by Thursday night. The Habibganj police are investigating the matter.
