Engineer, wife gunned down in Bhagalpur

The retired engineer called up his brother-in-law to inform him and died thereafter, while wife died on the spot.

A retired engineer and his wife were shot dead by some unidentified persons at their Bhagalpur residence in the early hours on Tuesday, police said.

The couple, Vijay Kumar Pandey, a retired irrigation department engineer, and his wife Usha Kiran Pandey, were shot by unidentified persons in their house in Sarai locality under Tatarpur police station at around 2.30 am, they said.

The assailants climbed on the top of the roof of their house and then descended inside using the stairs before killing the couple, they said.

While, the wife died on the spot, the injured engineer called up his brother-in-law, Sanjay Kumar Mishra, to inform him about the incident, they said.

Pandey, however, died soon after without getting any medical help, they said.

No valuables were taken by the attackers, they said adding that the exact cause behind the murder was not clear.

The number of those involved in the crime is not yet known, they said.
