Some enterprising Delhi University applicants are learning how to make a quick buck even before they get into college, let alone a job.
Aspirants who have already submitted their OMR forms are now approaching others who come to the North Campus to get forms to buy the prospectus from them at cheaper rates.
“We have filled our forms and are waiting to sell these prospectuses to other aspirants. This way we earn some and they save some,” said Tanvi Mahindroo, who along with her friends was seen looking for an interested buyer for her prospectus.
Most students are selling the prospectus for Rs. 50. A form along with the prospectus costs Rs. 100 while a single form costs just Rs. 20. So, a student who buys the form from the university and the prospectus from another student ends up spending only Rs. 70.
“The deal made sense to me. So I decided to buy the form from a guy outside the Arts Faculty. If I can save Rs. 30, I will,” said Animesh Mehra, another aspirant.
And buying cheap prospectuses is not the only way students are saving money. “I came to the university with a group of eight school friends. We bought only two prospectuses and used them to fill all the forms. Why waste money unnecessarily?” said Ishita Sareen, who, with her friends, had come to Gargi College from IP Extension to fill forms.
Delhi University has also started making all application information available freely on its website.
“Any student who wants to buy just the form can access our website and clarify any doubts as our prospectus is available online as well. We started this practice last year. As for students selling off their prospectuses, they are free to do whatever they want to as long as they do not spread any misinformation,” said a DU official.
