A former TNCC president, he contested successfully from Gobichettipalayam for the second time now.
A former TNCC president, he contested successfully from Gobichettipalayam for the second time now. Son of former DMK leader, EVK Sampath and Sulochana Sampath (now a prominent leader in the AIADMK), Elangovan was a former legislator also.
From 1978 to 1998, he held various posts in the state unit of the Congress party and from 1984 to 1989, he represented Sathyamangalam assembly seat. He became the state unit president of the Congress party in mid 2000 and held that post for nearly 18 months. He played an important role in cementing Congress-DMK alliance now.
