ALTHOUGH THE meeting of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) of Barkatullah University on Friday decided on promotions, the panel left it to the executive council (EC) to give the final approval. Hence, no formal orders were issued.
This decision led to further unrest among the employees who reiterated the threat of indefinite strike from Monday. The meeting was held after the vice-chancellor Prof Sirohi, who is presently in New Delhi, intervened on telephone. The meeting had ended in controversy on Thursday.
Ruckus was witnessed for a while even on Friday as the employees came up with some objections regarding the rules. Relevant documents regarding rules were then brought in from the General Administration Department (GAD). The meeting finally started at around 5 pm in the evening and continued for about two hours.
However, there was no solution in sight regarding the proposed indefinite strike as the employees kept pressing for issuance of the orders immediately as per the written assurance of the vice-chancellor.
However, as there has been controversy regarding the process, the committee headed by the registrar Dr Sanjay Tiwari has decided to get the decision approved by the EC – the meeting of which is expected only by the end of the month.
The employees are expecting some action on Saturday when the vice-chancellor Prof Sirohi returns to the city from New Delhi, else they would proceed on indefinite strike from Monday as announced earlier, employee sources said.
