"The Election Commission is duty-bound to act upon the petitions with regard to the persons holding Offices of Profit. Any delay on the part of the Commission will be misunderstood and invite criticism," senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters in Hyderabad.

He said senior CPI(M) leader and former MP Nilotpal Basu's criticism of the Commission was "unjustified".

"BJ''s stand is very clear. Article 102 of the Constitution should be honoured in letter and spirit," Naidu said.

The CPI(M) leader had accused the EC of being "biased" on Saturday against the Left parties and asked it to close disqualification proceedings against 10 party MPs, including Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee in the Office of Profit cases.
