ON THE THIRD day of the mega event in the City – All India Ophthalmological Conference ‘Antar Drishti’, there were presentations and deliberations on subjects like macular degeneration, cornea transplantation and paediatric ophthalmology today.

The local organizing body of the conference also held a session in which citizens, especially the poor, got the opportunity to interact with the experts from other parts of the country and abroad.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Organising Secretary Dr Salil Kumar said it has been decided in principle that from next conference, provisions would be made to extend direct benefits to common man, especially the poor.

“In general, medical conferences are limited to lectures and discussions, but here we’ve decided that facilities should be provided to patients facing typical problems through expert consultancy during the conference,” he said.

As a beginning, the local organising body today, facilitated consultancy of foreign experts in the field of ageing macular degeneration, cornea transplantation and paediatric ophthalmology to some of the local patients, apart from regular technical sessions. “From next conference, we’ve decided to form panels of two experts in each faculty and help patients on the occasion,” added Dr Kumar.
