They were protesting against the extortion calls made to two prominent city doctors. A large number of members of Prayag Vyapar Mandal, Allahabad Medical Representative Association and Allahabad Chemist and Druggist Association also participated in the procession led by AMA president Dr AK Bansal.

The procession started from Yatrik Crossing and terminated at Subhash Crossing, Civil Lines, where a human chain was formed by the doctors and traders.

Holding banners and posters with messages to stop extortion calls, the doctors resented the deteriorating law and order situation. A memorandum addressed to the SSP was also handed over to CO Civil Lines, Rajeshwar Singh.

Dr AK Bansal expressed concern over the security of doctors.

He said a large number of doctors were receiving extortion calls due to administration’s inability to track down the criminals. Despite repeated requests, proper action was not taken to improve the law and order situation, he said.
