Within a few days after taking charge as the director of Allahabad Museum, Dr SK Sharma is quite enthusiastic about the renovation work which, according to him, is the most necessary part in order to position the museum among its other national counterparts.
"The flooring of the central hall has already started where granite stone is being used. Next on the cards is the Sculpture gallery and Medieval Sculpture gallery where the flooring will be done with the Kota stone," said Dr Sharma.
The sales counter and the reception will serve the purpose of displaying the replicas and the publications of the museum so that the visitors could immediately notice them as soon as they enter the hall. "We have plans to fully air-condition the central hall and a metal detector will be installed at the entrance which is the most vital part from the security point of view," said Dr Sharma.
In the hall the significant pieces from each gallery including the sculptures and miniature paintings will be kept.
The main auditorium has now been named as 'Pandit Brij Mohan Vyas Sabhagar' . It may be recalled that Vyas had been the founder of the museum. Besides, the entire garage is being renovated where the 'Mahatma Gandhi Smiriti Vehicle' has been placed.
"There are provisions for the installation of generator to deal with power crisis. For all the renovation work, the funds are being released by the Central Government's Department of Culture," said Dr Sharma.
DP Dwivedi, engineer, Allahabad Museum, said that the flooring alone required approximately Rs 20 lakhs while renovation of courtyard will require Rs one lakh, the auditorium Rs 4.50 lakh and the garage too will require Rs 4.50 lakh.
"Fabrication of the gate is also on the cards in order to convey a splendid look to the museum. Besides, the proposal for lift facility for the disabled is still under way," added Dwivedi.
"Everything is being done in a planned way with full support of our chairman Prof RK Verma and hopefully within three months the citizens as well as the visitors from outside the city will get to see the renovated museum. Various plans will be chalked out for development of museum from time to time to make it still better," said Dr Sharma.
