A TEAM of officials, drawn from the local administration and the police, busted a racket of fake certificates of all kinds. The police arrested two persons late on Wednesday evening and a massive search was on to dig out other operators.

The administration had been getting many complaints regarding the racket and availability of fake certificates for a price. Authorities also stumbled across the fact that a majority of certificates submitted under the Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme were fake. Some 1200 certificates fall in this category forcing the authorities to sit up and take note.

Likewise, residence certificates submitted by aspirants for Aganwadi workers, were also found fake and sub divisional magistrate Umakant Tripathi made the admission a few days back.

Consequently, District Magistrate Anurag Shrivastava ordered investigations both by officials under his command and the police. The team finally got a lead when a decoy sent by them procured a certificate. Acting on this discovery, the team carried out raids and swept up Kamal Singh, son of Jairam Singh, resident of the Avas Vikas Kalyanpur and Ashok Yadav, son of Ramawtar, resident of the Lakshmi Purwa.

The police also recovered the fake stamps of different district and state officials, including the stamp of the chief medical officer, district judge, Teshsildar, stamp of Aryasamj Temple, Additional District Magistrate (Finance) and stamp of Nagar Nigam officials used for issuing of birth and death certificates and many more.

Besides, other stationery was also recovered from the custody of both the arrested accused. Talking to Hindustan Times circle officer of Kotwali Rakesh Jolly and SDM Tripathi said that during formal interrogation, the arrested accused have given leads about the involvement of a few more persons.

Therefore, efforts were on to nab other persons of the gang and some of them are likely to be taken in custody later tonight.
