Fake currency racket busted, three held

THE POLICE busted a fake Indian and Nepali currency racket and arrested three members of the gang from two places in the city on Thursday. Fake Indian currency worth Rs 275,400 in denomination of Rs 500 and 100 and Nepalese currency worth Rs 206,000 and three fake Kisan Vikas Patra worth Rs 30,000 in denomination of Rs 10,000 were recovered. Apart from this, two monitors, three colour laser printers, one scanner, one screening printing frame, colour and plain paper with watermark were also seized.

Briefing media persons, here on Thursday evening, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ashutosh Pandey said the cops of Sunderpur police outpost were engaged in checking of suspected persons and vehicles at around 1 pm.

There they were tipped off two persons engaged in the illegal business of circulating fake currency were coming to the area to deliver their wares to some unknown person.

The police laid a trap in the area and arrested the two suspected persons and recovered the fake currency.

During interrogation, the arrested, identified as Banne Khan (Varanasi) and Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, revealed they were simply carrying out what was assigned to them while the mastermind and supplier lived in Dhoopchandi area in Varanasi.

The cops raided the house and busted a small factory of printing fake Indian and foreign currency in that area. Police arrested mastermind, Satyendra Kumar Tiwari and also recovered a pistol from his possession.
