THE CITY police busted an inter-state gang of fake currency smugglers and arrested three persons in this connection from Nakhi ghat area under Jaitpura police station in Varanasi on Monday.
The police also recovered 400 fake currency notes of Rs 100 denomination from their possession. Giving this information to mediapersons here on Monday, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dr GK Goswami informed that the police were planning to raid Chukaghat area to nab a wanted criminal. In the meantime, the police got information that four people with fake currency notes were present at Nakhighat on Monday.
Acting on the tip-off, the police team swung into action and laid a trap to nab the miscreants. During the operation, three of them were nabbed by the police while the leader of the gang managed to escape from the scene.
The arrested miscreants were identified as Zia-ul Haque, a resident of Azamgarh, Nisar, a resident of Jaitpura in Varanasi and Ansarul Haque, a resident of west Champaran district in Bihar.
Police recovered fake currency of Rs 20,000 from the possession of Zia-ul Haque, fake currency of Rs 10,000 from the possession of Nisar and fake currency of Rs 10,000 from the possession of Ansarul Haque. The police also launched a search to nab the absconding head of the gang Iftekhar Ahmed, a resident of Jaitpura .During interrogation, the arrested smugglers confessed that fake currency was brought from Nepal and run in the market at less price. The police lodged cases against the arrested smugglers. The SSP declared a reward for the police team.
Meanwhile, a police team of Cantonment police station and the team of Special Operation Group (SOG) nabbed a swindler who cheated people on the pretext of doubling their currency, in Kachehri area on Monday.
The police also recovered an Indica car, two cellphones, two ATM cards, Rs 25, 000 cash, fake currency of Rs 1,000 and some chemicals from his possession. The arrested man was identified as Manoj Kumar Srivastava. This man also used the name of an underworld don by claiming himself as a close associate of the mafia.
Circle Officer of Cantonment area Santosh Singh said that acting on the tip-off, the local police team with SOG personnel laid a trap near Kachehri and nabbed the fraud man.
Murder worked out: Police have worked out the sensational murder case of local BSP leader Abhishek Yadavwhich took place on July 20 in Baragaon area. The conspirator, Bhagat Singh was arrested on Monday.
