This strange quirk came to light during the medical examination conducted by a team of senior doctors. Medical examination is mandatory before admission. Boys were made to undress and have themselves examined for any disease or physical abnormality.
During physical tests, most of the boys were found to have gynaecomastia. It is due to hormonal changes and usually resolves on its own, bringing the body back into shape after teens.
For this sustained problem among the CPMT-2006 pass-outs, the experts aminers blamed it on the fast food culture. “Fast food and non-vegetarian eatables are harmful for the hormonal growth of the body and I think the students are habitual fast food eaters,” said a senior member of the panel of physical examination. It is not a problem even at this stage but being medical students they should know the effects of irresponsible eating habits. If they cannot keep their body perfect how will they help others keep fit, he commented. Whatever the reason for the “overgrown chests”, it could certainly give the seniors some meat for the ragging session.
