Fast track court summons Aman Kachroo's father in ragging case
On the application moved by the public prosecutor, the fast track court on Wednesday summoned Dr Rajendra Kachroo, father of Aman Satya Kachroo, first year medical student of Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda, who died allegedly after being ragged by four senior students of last year in March. Presiding Officer Fast Track court Purinder Vaidya directed Dr Rajendra Kachroo to appear in person before the court on August 28. The court also allowed public prosecutor to re-examine two other witnesses - Dr DP Swami, who conducted the autopsy at Zonal Hospital, Dharamsala, and Dr Harjeet of the ear, nose and throat department. Dr Harjeet had examined Aman Kachroo when the latter complained of perforation in the ear. The two had earlier deposed before the court. The court has allowed additional evidence, Deputy District Attorney Ravi Kant Kuashal said.
The four accused in the court, Ajay Verma, Naveen Verma, Abhinav Verma and Mukul Sharma had been granted bail by fast track court, Dharamsala, on July 17. Taking suo moto cognizance of the media reports, Himachal Pradesh High Court cancelled the bail granted to the four accused by the fast track court.
The four senior medical students accused in the case surrendered before Additional and Session Judge's court in Dharamsala following the High Court's direction. All the four accused were later sent back to jail. Aman Kachroo, 19, died on March 8, 2009, after being allegedly ragged by the four final-year students of the Rajendra Prasad Medical College in Tanda. His death had led to national uproar. The state government ordered magisterial probe to ascertain the cause of his death, while the Medical Council of India had sent a panel to find out the reason responsible for incidents of ragging on the campus of Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College. The state government later brought an anti-ragging law in the state.
