February 15 ultimatum to dairy owners

THE BHOPAL Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going to serve final notice to dairy owners to shift dairies till February 15 to the newly developed cattle complex at Malikhedi.

At Malikhedi, the dairy owners would be given a plot of 1500 square feet for housing 10 cattle. More than 300 dairies would be shifted there. The BMC has developed dairy complex on about 46-acre land.

Similarly, the BMC has also asked for 40.90-acre land at Nathu Barkheda and 103.33-acre land at Bakania Bhauri for the dairy complexes. The BMC had developed a dairy complex at Kokta near Anand Nagar in 1975 but this project failed as the dairy owners returned pleading long distance.

In the first phase, the BMC administration would shift the dairies situated in the vicinity of Upper Lake and Lower Lake. There are 765 dairies in the State capital and of these, about 100 are in the vicinity of the Upper and the Lower lakes.

The BMC has developed infrastructure at Malikhedi at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore. The corporation has already completed most of the infrastructure development works here. Five tube-wells were dug up for smooth water supply to the dairies here. Besides, the construction of a sump tank has already been completed. About 150 plots of various sizes are being developed here.

BMC’s deputy commissioner GP Mali informed that dairy owners would be told to shift their base to Malikhedi. In case of any delay, the dairy owner would be shifted under a government notification issued last year. The orders of this notification would be issued after February 15.

Though a proclamation published in the Madhya Pradesh gazette, the BMC administration has declared the urban areas of the state capital as ‘Cattle Free Zone’ last year.

According to this notification, the cattle keeping would be allowed only in areas including village Pipalner, Bairagarh Kalan, Bhainsakhedi, half of south area of Goragaon, Barkhedi Khurd, Barkhedi Kalan, Khuda Ganj, Chhaoni, Chandanpur,

Jatkhedi, Misrod, Amrawat Khurd, Bagh Mughalia, Barkheda Pathani, Khajuri Khurd, Khajuri Kalan, Kokta (leaving Transport Nagar area), Hathaikheda, Narela Sankri, Dam Kheda, Maholi, Khejda Baramad, Malikhedi, Rasla Khedi, Badwai, Rusalli and Palasi. The BMC could prohibit keeping animals in the urban areas of the City.
