Federer thumps Lisnard to reach third round
Second seed Roger Federer's bid for a second consecutive grand slam gained momentum on Friday when the Wimbledon champion brushed aside Frenchman Jean-Rene Lisnard 6-1 6-2 6-0 to reach the third round of the US Open.
Federer, who struggled in his first round match before Argentine Jose Acasuco quit in the fourth set with an injury, was in full control from the start and needed just 78 minutes to dispose of his 94th ranked opponent.
The 22-year-old Swiss was in devastating form, hitting 32 winners while Lisnard could find the mark just eight times.
In the third round Federer will take one of the young American hopes, James Blake, who advanced with a 6-3 6-4 4-6 7-6 win over Armenia's Sargis Sargsian.
