Fifteen tourists from Bangalore have been arrested at Hoggenakkal area after one of them, allegedly in an inebriated condition, opened fire and seriously injured a local on Wednesday, police said.

Venkataramanna, 38, was shot at after he was called to massage the visitors at the tourist spot on the banks of Cauvery river on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border on Tuesday, they said.

The injured person was taken to Dharmapuri Goverment hospital where the bullet has been removed from the body, police said adding that his condition was stated to be serious.

All the 15 tourists were allegedly in an inebriated state when they were arrested on Tuesday night. The gun used in the firing was seized.

They were handed over to Karnataka police this morning, police said.
