Pankaj Vohra in All the presidential men (May 28), makes it clear that the UPA government is trying to enlist the support of the BSP. Mayawati is being acknowledged for her role in bringing Dalits and Brahmins together in UP. For decades, the Brahmins have been instrumental in oppressing Dalits. Viewed from that angle,
this marriage of convenience may prove temporary.
The President of India should be a person of integrity and scholarly. He should embody simplicity and be a role model. One should also look at some eminent women who could be considered for the top slot.
Apropos of the report Dera says sorry to Guru (May 28), now that the head of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect has tendered his apology, the issue should be given a quiet burial. People should learn a lesson from this episode and respect the traditions of all religions.
Bad for business
Apropos of the report Maya puts a hex on Anil’s trade zone (May 25), the CM’s concern should be the state’s progress. By asking the Centre not to sanction the special economic zone to the Reliance group, Mayawati is lowering her stature.
Save the tiger
The editorial Playing ostrich with tigers (May 25), rightly stated that the MoEF is an ignored ministry and so are its jobs. It is sad that people are doing away with tigers at alarming rate. We must save tigers from the effects of our consumerism, pollution and corruption, and let them live their natural life.
