The Supreme Court stayed the eviction of tenants from the property of Raja Mahmudabad till further hearing of the case on Monday.

The traders celebrated the court order by distributing sweets and expressing their gratitude towards the court.

“It’s our first victory against an arrogant Raja. We believe in the law of the land. Till now we were not heard despite the fact that we were the most affected party in the case. Now the Supreme Court has taken note of our sufferings and ordered a stay in our favour.

We believe we shall get justice after we are heard by the honourable court,” said Sandeep Kohli, owner of Kohli Brothers.

“Till now we avoided approaching court as we thought that the Raja will hear our request and would consider the plea of traders. But, the Raja getting harsher by the day and we have been termed trespassers and encroachers. Now we have decided to fight back and take the Raja to the court,” he said.

Expressing his happiness over the staying of eviction, Hazratganj Traders’ Association president Kishenchand Bhambwani said, “We are feeling joyous at last there has been some relief for the traders after the days of agony. For the first time, the court heard four-point and found it reasonable enough to be heard again.”

He said the Hawan would go on till the victory was achieved by the traders while the other protests like the burning of effigy have been temporarily suspended, till the further hearing of the case.

The president of Lucknow Vyapar Mandal Laxmi Narayan Agarwal was elated with the decision of Supreme Court, he said, “ The Raja must learn a lesson from it and shed his arrogance for the settlement of the issue.”

However, the Sub Divisional Officer Manoj Rai said the district administration would take action as per the court directives after the hearing of case on Monday.
