A major fire broke out early on Sunday at the railway station causing heavy damage to infrastructure, official sources said.

The blaze, which broke out at 4 am at the ticket counter of the railway station, was brought under control by fire tenders but it had already rendered the entire communication system out of order.
Details of any casualties were not immediately known.
Short circuit is believed to be the reason for the fire, the sources said adding that tickets are being issued manually after severe damage caused to the computers in the blaze.
This has created chaos among the hundreds of passengers who were standing in the queue for tickets.
The incident occurred ahead of the visit of Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to the railway station this afternoon to inspect its functioning.
