As soon as the train, on its way to Howrah from Kalka, stopped at the Fatehpur railway station, smoke was seen emanating from the bogey next to the engine.

The bogey was detached from the train to control the flames, Railway sources said.

Some passengers jumped out of the train in panic, resulting in minor injuries, the sources said adding that the flames were brought under control in about three hours.

Assistant Station Master Rajiv Lochan said the cause of the fire would be known only after an inquiry.

Railway traffic was restored later in the day and the Kalka Mail also left for its onward journey.
